Tilaurakot is an archaeological site in Nepal, believed to be the ancient capital of Kapilvastu, the kingdom where Prince Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) spent his early life before renouncing the world. It is located in the Kapilvastu District of Nepal, about 27 km west of Lumbini.

Historical Significance

  • Tilaurakot is considered the palace of King Śuddhodana, the father of Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha).

  3. Eastern and Western Gates – The eastern gate is believed to be where Prince Siddhartha took his "Great Renunciation" (Mahabhinishkraman).
  4. Ancient Artifacts – Coins, pottery, and tools dating back to the Buddha’s time.
